Una cicala cantava sull’alto di una pianta. Una volpe, che aveva voglia di mangiarsela, escogitò una trovata di questo genere: si fermò là dirimpetto e cominciò a far meraviglie per la dolcezza del suo canto e a pregarla di scendere, dichiarando che desiderava vedere com’era grossa la bestia dotata di una voce così potente. La cicala, che sospettava il suo gioco, staccò una foglia e la gettò giù. La volpe le si precipitò addosso, come avrebbe fatto con la cicala. E quella: “Ti sei sbagliata, cara mia, se speravi che io scendessi. Io, dal giorno che ho veduto delle ali di cicala in un cacherello di volpe, delle volpi non mi fido”.
